The Opportunity
With the completion of Geelong Arts Centre’s transformative build, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the region’s premier cultural institution. The Director, Marketing and Development will play a pivotal part in driving audience growth, fostering partnerships, maximising revenue streams and working alongside an experienced team poised for success.
This position is key to amplifying the Centre’s creative impact and establishing it as a cultural leader both locally and beyond.
Position Overview
The Director, Marketing and Development plays a broad and pivotal leadership role in the sustainability and growth of Geelong Arts Centre and its programs. With a strategic focus, this position is accountable for maintaining existing and attracting new and diverse audiences, funding partners, sponsors and supporters, from within the greater Geelong region and beyond.
The Director, Marketing and Development will develop and implement marketing, communications, community engagement and development strategies and operational plans to maximise revenue streams in line with approved budget, growth targets and the Centre’s vision, policies and procedures.

To be successful in this position, you will have
- A proven track record of delivering successful marketing, engagement and development or philanthropic outcomes, preferably in an arts industry setting.
- Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills, including the capacity to communicate a compelling brand and identity to engage a diverse range of people, communities, audiences, and stakeholders.
- Experience successfully managing budgets and delivering on ambitious targets.
- A solid understanding of and experience working with diverse stakeholders, such as creative teams, artists, external contractors, media partners, government agencies, philanthropic trusts, donors, and corporate partners, to achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, coach, and manage a high-performing team.
- Proven ability to manage a range of projects simultaneously and to deliver agreed outcomes within established timeframes.
- Highly developed skills in strategic planning, business development, and commercial negotiations.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Graduate or post graduate qualification in relevant discipline.
- An interest in, and knowledge of, the performing arts.
- Knowledge of the Geelong and district community.
- Competence in the maintenance of customer relationship management (CRM) and fundraising databases.
- Experience working with Boards or other governance bodies.
