"As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a giant insect."
So begins Steven Berkoff's iconic adaptation of Franz Kafka's famous novella which is brought to life in this highly theatrical production.
Gregor Samsa, a young man with his whole future ahead of him, is a travelling salesman. He is stuck working for a cruel and demanding clerk in order to pay off his father's debt as well as supporting his parents and younger sister Greta. Gregor has ambitions for the future -such as sending Greta to a conservatory to play violin -but all hopes are dashed when he transfigures into a massive insect.
Considered one of Berkoff's masterpieces, Metamorphosis combines elements of sound, physicality and minimalist design to recreate Kafka's absurdist world on stage.
