Geelong Arts Centre offers valuable workplace learning opportunities for secondary students, including Work Experience placements for Year 10 students and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements for students undertaking relevant VET or VCE VM studies. These programs are administered in partnership with the Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network (GRLLEN).

Work Experience (Year 10)

Students participate in a one-week placement (Monday–Friday), engaging in a broad program designed to provide insight into the diverse operations of a major arts organisation. During the week, students gain exposure to a range of departments, including:

  • Marketing
  • Box Office
  • Presenter Services and Account Management
  • Programming
  • Food and Beverage
  • Event Coordination and Delivery
  • Production Management
  • Technical theatre operations

 Structured Workplace Learning

SWL students attend one day per week over a 4–5 week period, working closely with our Production and Technical teams. This placement offers a more specialised, hands-on experience in theatre operations and technical production, which may include:

  • Lighting design and operation
  • Sound and audiovisual (AV)
  • Staging
  • Bump-in and bump-out processes
  • General technical support
  • Equipment maintenance

Please note that SWL placements will require students to work hours outside of school hours in order to align them to the best work opportunities.

Application Process

Please note that placements are limited. Priority will be given to students who demonstrate a genuine interest in and commitment to pursuing a career in the creative industries.

All applications must be submitted through the Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network (GRLLEN). For more information and to apply, please follow the link below:
