World renowned dance workshop opportunities with The Australian Ballet at Geelong Arts Centre
20 Jun 2023MEDIA RELEASE • 20 JUNE 2023
This July, The Australian Ballet hits Geelong Arts Centre for a run of interactive dance workshops set to get the whole community involved, ranging from school holiday classes to a professional teacher development workshop.
In the lead-up to their highly anticipated return to The Play House stage from July 28 – 29, The Australian Ballet are making the most of their stay, providing 3 unique community engagement workshops to give the G-21 region a chance to channel its grace and beauty at the helm of world-class ballet dancers.
From July 4 – 6 in Limelight Studio 4, children aged 3 to 12 years are invited to register for the Australian Ballet School Holiday Workshops. With multiple sessions for each age group available over the course of the three days, young movers will explore the world of dance through warm-ups, dance exercises and choreographic games. These workshops will focus on The Story of Pomi and Gobba, and tap into all things costume design, music, and storytelling. No ballet experience required.
In addition to taking part in the creative workshop, tickets to the school holiday workshops also grant free access to The Australian Ballet’s subsequent performances of Pomi and Gobba, a contemporary adaptation of the Wiradjuri Dreamtime story ‘Gobbagumbalun and Pomingalarna’.
Later in the afternoon on July 26, teachers can take their turn in learning the creative craft of dance in the classroom, exploring new techniques that aim to put students in the ‘choreographic driving seat’. Warming up Spotlight Studio 2 from 4:00pm, this two-hour session facilitates professional development in an artistic setting that encourages alternative strategies and innovative thinking within the classroom.
Don’t miss your chance to learn from world renowned ballerinas and teachers in the heart of Geelong this July.
