MEDIA RELEASE • 27 JULY 2022
With just two performances on Saturday 3 September at Costa Hall, BLUE: The Songs of Joni Mitchell is a beguiling night of melancholic songs, poetic storytelling and haunting vocals.
Starring celebrated Australian cabaret chanteuse and musical theatre star, Queenie van de Zandt, accompanied by a live band, BLUE: The Songs of Joni Mitchell explores van de Zandt’s love of all things Joni.
Renowned for her artful storytelling and raw emotive vocals, through this enchanting show, van de Zant brings audiences the songs, stories and art of musical legend, Joni Mitchell; arenaissance woman, painter and poet who created a soundtrack for the Woodstock generation.
Using voice overs and intimate storytelling, experience a sonic journey through Joni’s life with affectionate reinterpretations of her music and intimate revelations of the stories behind some of her most haunting songs.
BLUE: The Songs of Joni Mitchell has been touring to sold-out venues and rave reviews across Australia and the US since 2017.
The show has received a slew of theatre awards along the way, including a nomination for the prestigious Helpmann Award for Best Cabaret Performer and the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Cabaret Production.
BLUE: The Songs of Joni Mitchell is presented by Neil Gooding Productions and Amazon Woman Enterprises.
Performances will take place at 1:00pm and 7:30pm on Saturday 3 September.

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE
“Joni Mitchell gave a daughter up for adoption early in her career and her music was so influenced by this experience. When I gave birth to my daughter, it felt like a perfect time to explore this mother and daughter relationship and the effect that becoming a parent has on your creativity.”
Star of BLUE: The Songs of Joni Mitchell,
Queenie van de Zandt
“Our Season 2022 is all about sharing incredible stories, and it’s true that music has the innate power to induce nostalgia and elicit real empathy and emotion. Geelong Arts Centre is thrilled to welcome Australia’s very own Queenie van de Zandt to share Joni’s story with music-lovers of our region”.
