MEDIA RELEASE • 3 JULY 2023

This September, Geelong Arts Centre will reveal the capabilities of its brand new theatre spaces with a diverse line-up of riveting shows that celebrate modern theatre experiences.

On September 13 - 14 at 7:30pm, Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta will light up The Open House with The Javaad Alipoor Company to present Rich Kids: A History Of Shopping Malls In Tehran. This provocative digital story unfolds in the palm of your hand on your mobile device and on-screen as audiences are guided through an audacious exploration of contemporary society and the human condition.

Please note: this darkly comedic and deeply revealing show combines digital theatre and a live Instagram feed. Patrons will need a smart phone and capacity to connect to internet whilst in the theatre to take part.

Come September 20 - 21, Beat Entertainment and Regional Arts Victoria take to The Story House stage for RECKŌNING. This powerful celebration of Indigenous culture champions survival, creativity and strength through 60 minutes of original songs, dance and exceptional raw storytelling.

After captivating audiences at Melbourne Fringe Festival, Adelaide Fringe, and across the pond at NZ Fringe Festival, A Lovely Day To Be Online makes its fateful homecoming, gracing The Open House stage on September 22 at 7:30pm. This original comedic gig-theatre show from past Creative Engine grant recipient, Connor Morel, is filled with original soul-pop tunes and a whole lot of heart. Supported by Geelong Arts Centre, A Lovely Day To Be Online is a hilarious look into internet culture, and a glaring critique into who we become when we leave the real world.

The bold line up of boundary-defying work is a testament to Geelong Arts Centre’s daring new program pillar REWIRE, a curation of arts experiences designed to challenge, thrill and delight.
