MEDIA RELEASE • 2 MARCH 2021
Fun and fabulous theatre experiences await families in Geelong Arts Centre’s Love Central Geelong Family Magic 2021 program, with an enticing variety of musical workshops, physical theatre and circus, literary favourites coming to life, and for the first time, an immersive performance specially designed for children with a broad range of access needs.
Consisting of seven fantastically eclectic shows, the Love Central Geelong Family Magic 2021 program is designed to captivate, inspire and entertain children under 12, as well as their parents, siblings, grandparents and carers. We are proud to showcase events that support inclusion.
For many children in the G21 region, the Love Central Geelong Family Magic program provides their first theatrical experience, and is remembered fondly well into adulthood.
“Geelong Arts Centre takes great pride in helping families spark a love for the arts that introduces their little ones to a world of limitless possibilities.”
Geelong Arts Centre CEO, Joel McGuinness
In April, the program kicks off with an opportunity celebrate and have a good old-fashioned wiggle with Let’s Party from locally renowned family favourites, The Mik Maks.
Come May and June, young readers will delight in witnessing David Walliams’ bestselling children’s book, The Midnight Gang, and Jackie French’s much-loved Pete the Sheep be brought to life on stage by CDP Kids and Monkey Baa Theatre Company.
Never underestimate the determination of a child! In Slingsby’s Emil and the Detectives, young Emil catches a train to visit family in the big city and something valuable is stolen. But can this bunch of kids work together to uncover and outsmart the true criminal?
During the July school holidays, in an epic tribute to stupid fun, Gravity Dolls bridge the gap between generations of classic games, from retro video games to school yard classics, and give them a circus twist in Go, Go, GO!
In August, combining old school whimsy with state-of-the-art technology, Patch Theatre’s ZOOOM is an enchanting story of a child alone in her bedroom, unable to sleep and curious to understand. Part music video, part dream, ZOOOM is a visual theatre show (non-verbal) about all sorts of perspective, driven by child-logic.
Finally, in September, created by pioneering theatre makers Sensorium Theatre and suitable for children with a broad range of access needs, including those with multiple and complex needs and those on the autism spectrum, Whoosh! is an immersive and multi-sensory performance that puts children at the centre of the action. Kids board a stunning custom-built spaceship to work as a team and copilot an intergalactic adventure.
Love Central Geelong Family Magic 2021 is proudly supported by principal partner, Creative Victoria, and valued program partner, Love Central Geelong.
