The Devil’s Grip

Created by writer/performer/producer Gavin Roach and set in the Western District's prized pastoral lands and rolling Barrabool Hills, the story at the centre of The Devil's Grip is deeply connected to the Geelong area.

The Devil's Grip investigates the murky mysteries that lurk beneath one of Victoria's gruesome true crime stories - the triple murder of the Wettenhall family at the Stanbury Estate.

Combining elements of Australian gothic storytelling and a documentary-style narrative, the creative team will investigate innovative ways to construct each character and the world in which they inhabit, as well as integrating the unique sounds and scenery of the surrounding Geelong wilderness.

Gavin Roach has a Bachelor of Arts (Acting for the Screen and Stage), Bachelor of Arts (Acting for the Screen and Stage, Honours) CSU, Masters in Arts Management UTS & Masters in Writing for Performance VCA.

Gavin is the writer, performer & producer of Confessions of a Grindr Addict (Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Perth Adelaide, Launceston, Hobart & New Zealand), Any Womb Will Do (Sydney, Melbourne & New Zealand), I Can’t Say The F Word (Melbourne, Perth & New Zealand), The Measure of a Man (Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Hobart, Brisbane, Prague & Dublin) & All The Songs I Can’t Sing (Melbourne.)

Gavin adapted and produced Beyond Priscilla: The Play & was the co-devisor & co-creative developer of We Were There, showcasing the stories of women during the HIV/AIDS crisis in Australia.

In 2019 Gavin produced the Western Australian and Victorian premiere of Manwatching, as well as running The Stables space at Meat Market during the Melbourne Fringe. During this time he produced the Victorian premiere of Lake Disappointment, All I See Is You and the World Premiere of Your Silence Will Not Protect You, Transgression and the immersive installation work, The Loneliness Project.
