THE THINGS WE HOLD DEAR
by Next Tuesday Theatre
The Things We Hold Dear development week looks to explore the concept of hoarding; a mental health issue that is often misunderstood. Hoarding can come about from childhood experiences, trauma and OCD. It doesn't discriminate and can occur for people of any demographic, in the Geelong Region alone it is estimated there are over 11,000 homes with people living experiencing hoarding (Pearson, 2014, Geelong Advertiser).
This development is to explore the themes, how to approach the content and to discuss 'things', why people love objects, the connections and attachments formed with the things we own, where comfort and belonging is found.
The second collaborative project by Melina Wylie and Cat Holder with their company Next Tuesday Theatre, who previously attended Geelong Arts Centre Creative Engine Residency and finished a season of their work “You’re No Good” at La Mama Theatre. This project will also collaborate with Clare Holder from Geelong Illustrators.
