PLACE TO MAKE Samantha Lester

MILK

SAMANTHA LESTER

Inspired by the concept of sculpting clay that continually transforms into milk, slipping through the artist's fingers, this performance explores themes of impermanence, frustration, and the ephemerality of creation. Performed by a solo female dancer, Milk also serves as a poignant commentary on female labour and the disparities in the amount of labour performed by women compared to men.

PLACE TO MAKE PLACE TO MAKE Swing Lake - Xavier McGettigan

SWING LAKE

XAVIER MCGETTIGAN

Swing Lake is an adaptation of Swan Lake, re-imagined into the swing era of the early 20th centruy. Tchaikovsky's iconic score rearranged to swinging big band jazz (think Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman), ballet swapped out for jazz dance, tutus and tights replaced by pinstripe suits.

PLACE TO MAKE PLACE TO MAKE Fosterville - Josh Mitchell

FOSTERVILLE

JOSH MITCHELL

Fosterville by Josh Mitchell explores choreographic practice and music composition being entirely co-dependent. Movement patterns are recorded and become the percussive elements of the music. They separately play with the tempo of the choreography and the music, each always informing the other. Improvisation exercises are set to fragments of music and then mined to develop themes and verbal feedback that become lyrics. These lyrics then become verbal scores used to develop choreography. We keep iterating back and forth until we come up with the ‘final’ song/choreography.
