CULURA YOUTH WORKING GROUP
Cultura
The establishment of the working group also demonstrates our commitment to future-proofing our organisation and Pako Festa. Through formalising the Youth Council this will ensure that we remain relevant and agile, ready to adopt the most innovative practices to address any challenges our multicultural communities may encounter. The Youth Council establishment will address many existing challenges within our communities and will become the platform where we can build capacity of our future community leaders who value harmony between multicultural communities while preserving the richness of their own cultures.
This funding will assist Cultura in establishing the Youth Council and its framework via a number of hands-on workshops to identify current needs of the group and the opportunity to develop new projects addressing these needs. Facilitators will also be engaged to conduct additional workshops focusing on leadership skills. We anticipate that by the end of December 2024 we will have a pool of project ideas to then scope and source funding for on behalf of the Youth Council.
Cultura Bio
The Cultura Multicultural Youth Council Working Group currently represents 16 members from 11 diverse backgrounds. Over the next six months the group will meet on a monthly basis to participate in various workshops to identify youth needs, develop new community led project ideas and most importantly explore various committee frameworks to identify the most suitable structure for a co designed Youth Council framework.
Leadership skills will be at the forefront for the Youth Council to ensure the sustainability of the Multicultural Community Services Geelong (MCSG) Council, representing 44 diverse communities (the backbone of the annual Pako Festa).
The Multicultural Youth Council Working Group (or MCSG Youth Council) was established following extensive consultations with our diverse communities, where a need to improve youth engagement was identified. Currently there are 16 members from 11 diverse backgrounds with the aim to expand this to match the MCSG membership of 44 communities.
As an organisation, we believe it is crucial to include the voices of our multicultural young leaders in our strategic decision-making processes. Their insights are crucial for shaping initiatives that resonate with the needs of all communities we serve.
