PERMISSION GRANTED
Jessica Lesosky

Permission Granted is an innovative and multidisciplinary project designed to delve into the interconnected realms of pleasure, laughter, power, social conditioning, and the reclamation of body and self. The project seeks to challenge societal assumptions and habits, examining the beliefs and behaviours shaped by social conditioning, challenging conventional narratives and fostering a deeper understanding of personal and collective experiences.

The project explores these themes through the lens of food and the culinary experience, using the kitchen as a symbolic space of both control and freedom. It is where people gather to share stories, secrets, and nourishment, fostering connections and building community. In Permission Granted, food becomes a celebration of the senses, a medium of memory, resistance, and storytelling.

The project brings together three mid-career professional artists: a dancer, a composer, and a voice actor. Three self-identifying women, with diverse lived experiences encompassing polyamory, LGBTQI+, menopause, vulvas. We will intersect our core practices. Each artist will be exploring movement, sound, and auditory performance, creating a dynamic interplay on stage.

Multiple workshops will be conducted in Geelong and surrounding regional communities, targeting self-identifying women of various ages, cultural backgrounds and diverse lived experiences. These workshops will involve movement, discussions, and shared culinary experiences, allowing participants to explore their desires, their power, their story and our shared stories. The insights and connections formed during these workshops will inform the research and foundational elements of the project.

The project will culminate in a performance that weaves together sound, movement, play, music, and food. The performance will be an immersive experience, inviting the audience to engage with the themes on a sensory and emotional level. Through sound, movement, play, music, and food, we will explore our desires and the boundaries of our inhibitions.
