PLAYGROUND
Zoee Marsh

Playground is a mixed media community activation involving movement and audio. Zoee Marsh partnered with dynamic choreographer and performer Sian Kelly are exploring a site specific large scale experience that is guided by prompts inspired by their upbringing in Geelong, specifically the arts. The final outcome of Playground is to highlight the growth of Geelong whilst encouraging community involvement and connection; and reigniting the artistic energy within. Furthermore, they creatively shift their focus away from devices and focus on being present.

Picture a highly populated Geelong spot such as the Steampacket Gardens, with a group of bodies moving, weaving & playing to local music. It may seem to appear as a choreographed piece by the way they are all moving in unity, but in reality they are being guided through instructional prompts via their headsets. The prompts inform their movements and guide the participants to carry out different creative tasks. They may hear “Stand with your feet planted in the ground and let your arms flow like seaweed at the bottom of the ocean” or “Travel to the centre of the space, and as a group move like a swarm of bees”. Their role is to simply listen and embody.

The experience aims to run for 2-3 hours and participants can come and go as they please. Zoee and Sian invites the community to be involved by either participating and/or watching the work unfold on a nearby bean bag or picnic rug.
