Lesley Alway, Chair – Geelong Arts Centre Trust

Lesley Alway is Chair of the Geelong Arts Centre Trust and wears many hats when it comes to the Geelong Arts Centre redevelopment project. Lesley is a fierce advocate for culture and the arts in the G21 region, and has been Chair of the Geelong Arts Centre Trust since 2018. In her role as Chair, Lesley is responsible for overseeing the strategic development of the current phase of the Little Malop Street redevelopment project.

“Working as part of a diverse team of super professional people to help make a vision become a reality – a real physical structure that is a significant new presence in the Geelong cultural precinct – is incredibly exciting.”

With a track record in cultural policy, management and international engagement spanning more than 30 years, Lesley’s advocacy and experience come second only to the passion she shares for this project with members of the local community.

“I enjoy the anticipation of the response of the Geelong and local regional communities to the new Centre as it opens – and seeing their surprise at the scale and variety of offerings that will now be available in the centre of Geelong for audiences and creatives.”

“It has been especially rewarding to work with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners to incorporate key stories and artworks that bring Country into the new Centre in a meaningful way.”

The Geelong Arts Centre Little Malop Street Redevelopment is backed with a $140 million investment from the Victorian Government.
