Cyber Cats is an online safety program for year 7’s held at the Geelong Football Club and has been developed in conjunction with the Deakin University School of Psychology and is delivered in collaboration with Victoria Police and Headspace Geelong in partnership with Geelong Arts Centre.
These two short videos provided below focus on cyberbullying and being a bystander. They are designed to be a short preview of the program and can be used as a conversation starter when talking about these important issues with young people.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Cyber Cats program is a response to the harms associated with cyber bullying and young people communicating with devices generally. Whilst the program began as a response to a specific tragic incident, over time we have collaborated with other stakeholders to develop a program specific to our region.
The Geelong Cats strongly recommend visiting the Office of the E-Safety Commissioners’ website for useful tips and resources regarding young people and the internet.
Program content:
- What is bullying online? How to manage the lack of context
- The effects of cyber bullying on individuals
- Help seeking when being bullied
- How to help someone being bullied
- Cyber bullying, distributing images and the law
- How to diffuse difficult situations such as being asked to send explicit images
- Developing a charter for student on/offline behaviour
Cyber Cats strongly advises rules about internet/social media use at home. The adolescent brain is still very much in the development stage in year 7 and is not very well equipped to manage social media alone. At the link below there is access to a parent webinar on cyber safety at home and other content, all featuring Geelong Cats players.
