Our grants and opportunities support a number of new works by local creatives.

Creative Engine offers regular grant rounds to invest in emerging projects produced by those with a strong connection to the Greater Geelong region.

The grants, both financial and in-kind studio access within the arts centre’s landmark Ryrie Street building, are designed to directly benefit local G21 artists and other artists with strong connections to our community in their pursuit to develop fresh, innovative and exciting work.

Selected projects span multiple artistic disciplines, including dance, magic, theatre and docu-film, but share in common their ability to meet the program’s three selection criteria: connection, innovation and thoughtfulness.

Ignition Recipients

$5,000 plus in-kind studio access and mentoring opportunities.

BIRTHDAY CAKE

Developed by Ross Mueller and Louise Siversen, Birthday Cake is a work of contemporary theatre that challenges our notions of privilege and confronts our complicity in our own destruction.

EXTRACTION

By the Space Company. Based on a true story, this theatre show tells the remarkable tale of a mass whale stranding in a remote corner of Tasmania and a small town community that went to save them.

MEMORY HOUSE

Memory House is a short dance theatre film by Blink Dance Theatre that explores the physicality of memory, the body as home and the Jungian archetype of the house as a metaphor for self.

MOUNTAIN

Mountain is a new performance work created by Kit Brookman and André Jewson. This new work explores the story of a man in pieces, an attempt to find hope amidst utter devastation.

THE RUBBLE

By Bravo Arts. A new gig theatre work that shares experience and viewpoints. Six exciting emerging artists come together for the first time to share their stories as young Australian artists in 2020.

JOURNEY ON WADAWURRUNG COUNTRY

Pilot project by Ferne Millen. Journey on Wadawurrung Country is a cultural exploration of our local indigenous people and their stories through artistic practice.

ROGER

By Tom Molyneux. September 5, 1842. An Aboriginal man from Mount Rouse is hanged at the Old Melbourne Gaol. Figara Alkepurata, called simply “Roger” by the white settlers, stood convicted of murder.

THE DREAM LAB

Essential Theatre’s latest work The Dream Lab is a re-imagination of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream that imagines new ways of delivering immersive theatre experiences to audiences of reduced sizes.

$2,000 plus occupancy, live stream broadcast, infrastructure and marketing support

The Geelong Lyric Theatre Society

Featuring a set list of Disney’s most loved songs, performed live by six of our region’s top vocal talents. Wish Upon A Song streamed live from Studio 4 on Saturday 28 November, 2020.

SOUL TRAIN – A JOURNEY THROUGH THE MUSIC GENRE

The Sweethearts

From early R&B and Motown, to Stax and Modern soul, The Sweethearts journeyed through the changing sounds that make up the soul genre. Soul Train – A Journey Through The Music Genre streamed live from Studio 4 on Tuesday 8 December, 2020.

North Children's Choir

Award-winning ensemble North Children’s Choir presented a unique performance that incorporated songs, stories, film and animation. The Gathering streamed live from Studio 4 Saturday 19 December, 2020.
