Come, sweet creature.

Perch on the small of my back.

Cock your head my way and shoot me an Ancestor’s piercing glance.

I yield into leafy linens as you softly warble in my ear:

 “Do you Swallow?”

Joel Bray invites his friend and musical collaborator Marco Cher-Gibard to dance an intimate ritual of finding his totem - Yirribin - the Welcome Swallow.

In an entanglement of electronics and eros, bondage becomes release and Joel takes flight.

Joel Bray is one of the most vital and exciting artists working in Australia today. His work is at once brutally funny, politically charged, and deeply human.

Deborah Jones, The Australian, October 2023

His distinctive style can be, by turns, laugh-out-loud funny and deeply arresting, weaving together disparate themes from his own life—queerness, Aboriginality, the legacy of colonisation—to create unexpected connections that are both intensely personal and universally resonant.

John Bailey, The Age (Feature Profile), 2022
