Contemporary circus set to dazzle Geelong: On By Circa takes the stage on May 12 for Geelong Arts Centre 'Our Season 2022'
3 May 2022MEDIA RELEASE • 3 MAY 2022
Having forged a reputation as the most artistically audacious circus on the planet over the last two decades, Circa Contemporary Circus will dazzle and delight with new show On By Circa on 12 May as part of Geelong Arts Centre’s Our Season 2022.
Hitting the Costa Hall stage next Thursday 12 May, On By Circa is circus at its contemporary best – as thrilling as it is moving.
Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz explores the gift of weight that lies at the heart of acrobatics. The simple act of giving and accepting another’s mass is transformed into a profound meditation about beauty, loss and trust.
To achieve this alchemy, the stage elements are reduced to their most essential: seven extraordinary acrobats, a score by Melbourne composer Jethro Woodward and a striking lighting design.
Layering complex acrobatic sequences with sharp moments of close up intimacy, the ensemble creates a stripped back circus of the heart that’s uncompromisingly bold and unashamedly athletic.
The performance runs for 70 minutes without interval.
Final tickets are on sale now at geelongartscentre.org.au/our-season-2022/on-by-circa. Get in quick to avoid disappointment!
Recommended for ages 12 and above, On By Circa offers a fun and impressive night out for the whole family.
With productions ranging from large scale operas and vast choreographic spectacles through site specific adventures and intimate chamber works, the breadth of Circa Contemporary Circus’ vision is unparalleled.
Circa acknowledges the assistance of the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

ABOUT CIRCA
Circa Contemporary Circus is one of the world's leading performance companies. Since 2004, from its base in Brisbane, Australia, Circa has toured the world - performing in 40 countries to over 1.5 million people. Circa's works have been greeted with standing ovations, rave reviews and sold-out houses across six continents.
Circa is at the forefront of the new wave of contemporary Australian circus - pioneering how extreme physicality can create powerful and moving performances. It continues to push the boundaries of the art form, blurring the lines between movement, dance, theatre and circus. Compelled by the question ‘what is possible in circus?’ Circa is leading the way with a diverse range of thrilling creations that ‘redraw the limits to which circus can aspire.’ (The Age).
Under the direction of circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz, Circa features an ensemble of exceptional, multi-skilled circus artists who have been a regular fixture at leading festivals and venues in New York, London, Berlin and Montreal with seasons at Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Barbican Centre, Les Nuits de Fourvière, Chamäleon Theatre as well as major Australian Festivals.
Circa is committed to fostering the next generation of circus artists and runs public circus classes from its studio in Brisbane. Circa also runs regular circus programs with communities throughout Queensland and around Australia.
As a champion of live performance, Circa manages arTour and was the Creative Lead for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games arts and cultural program.
