From Star Wars to Pirates of the Caribbean, conductor Mario Dobernig brings timeless and classic films to life at Costa Hall, with Music from the Movies.
Geelong Symphony Orchestra will perform iconic and unforgettable themes from favourite movies past and present, highlighting the symphonic nature of this music and demonstrating the skill of this fabulous, and proudly, local orchestra.
This concert promises to impress and excite all kinds of audiences: from families to grandparents; budding musicians to couch dwelling movie lovers; lovers of classical symphonic music to musical theatre tragics, it’s got something for everyone. Prepare to be immersed in the brilliant tracks from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, and many more songs from movies you know and love!
Join us, for an entertaining concert with many well-known pieces of music from movies, introduced and explained by our guest conductor, Mario Dobernig, and well-known Australian opera singer and entertainer, Sally-Anne Russell.

On a quest to make a difference, innovator Mario Dobernig is one of the most inspiring music makers of his generation. Mario is Artistic Director and Conductor in Chief for the Art of Sound Orchestra, the Victoria Chorale and co-artistic director of the Albury Chamber Music Festival. He has conducted among others the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Kapfenberger Symphoniker and Orchestra Calliope and at prestigious venues and festivals in Europe, the Middle East, China and Australia.
